A Wave of Pathos
Artist: Qwon Sunwang
May 6 – June 24, 2026. ARTCUBE 2R2, Gangnam, Seoul

In A Wave of Pathos, artist Qwon Sunwang translates fleeting human emotions and the vulnerability of existence into a compelling psychological topography. Moving away from rigid print-based methodologies, his style here balances fluid, luminous color fields with striking geometric fragments and bold, calligraphic lines that sweep across the canvas like organic rhythms. Crucial to this visual language is the tactile juxtaposition of acrylic and sand, which lends a rough, sculptural dimensionality to the otherwise diaphanous washes of pink, yellow, and cerulean. The granular resistance of the sand captures light unevenly, anchoring the transient, bleeding colors with an earthy weight. Curatorially, this material contrast acts as a metaphor for time: the liquid acrylic represents the ephemeral nature of feeling (pathos), while the embedded sand serves as a literal sedimentation of memory. Ultimately, Qwon's heavy, gestural marks and textured surfaces do not merely depict a landscape, but rather chart the tension and intimacy of proving one's existence in a disconnected world.

Beans Roll Anywhere
Beans Roll Anywhere
Artist: Jung JungYeob
July 12 - July 27, 2025. Stellar Gallery, Gangnam, Seoul

Jung Jungyeob’s exhibition Beans Roll Anywhere utilizes the bean as a nomadic symbol of vitality, representing the fluid movement of life across personal and global boundaries. Through her "travel diaries" on paper and canvas, she translates repetitive, meditative labor into a visual tribute to the quiet resilience of women and the natural world. Ultimately, the collection elevates the microscopic grain into a monumental narrative about survival, interconnectivity, and the persistent energy found in the most mundane elements of existence.
